The relaunch of the classic Nokia 3310 ruled the news out of the annual Mobile World Congress last week. The nostalgic phone, first released in 2000, has been reformed with more than ten times the battery life, a camera and a colour screen.

We’ve spent more time playing with the new Nokia 3310 had have updated this hands on with more of our findings – including footage of Snake!

So, If any phone can sell itself on nostalgia alone, that phone is the Nokia 3310.

Especially, It’s one of the most popular mobiles of all time, remembered for its near-indestructible build, long-lasting battery and legendary Snake game, and the team licensing the Nokia phone name has jumped at the chance to reignite the love for a phone which was once the leader in the mobile market.

New Nokia 3310 : When will it be released?

HMD Global, the Finnish startup behind the new Nokia phones, is yet to announce an official release date for the 3310. But it will be available in this summer.

What features will new Nokia 3310 have?

The new generation of the 3310 is thinner than its predecessor and has a 2.4-inch colour screen. It also comes in four colours: matte grey, matte dark blue, glossy red, and glossy yellow.

It has maintained some of the best features of the original 3310 with 22 hours of talk-time in one charge and improvements including a 30 day battery life on standby. The latest version has 16 GB internal storage and a new edition of Snake.

It also has several additional features including SD card slot, two-megapixel camera, FM radio, and headphone jack and 2.5G internet connection. All these features are packed into a smaller handset that weighs just 79.6g, compared with the original’s 133g.

Basically it can’t install apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp or Instagram. The phone doesn’t have Wi-Fi or GPS connectivity.

Comparing with the previous Nokia 3310

  • The weight of old Nokia was 133 gram, and the weight of new Nokia 3310 is 79.6 gram.
  • The old one hadn’t any camera but new version have 2 MP camera.
  • Old version had battery life up to two weeks but new Nokia 3310 have a month on standby.
  • The old version had a snake game, new version have also snake game but not the same.
  • Old version’s price was $141 and new Nokia 3310’s price is $40.
  • The old one’s release date was 2000 and new version’s release date is 2017.

The Nokia 3310 price has set at $40 (£35, AU$55).

Actually, there’s no firm new Nokia 3310 release date just yet only confirming that it will be available sometime in April-June.

Interface and Performance

What’s waiting for you? Android? Windows 10 Mobile? No. Nokia’s stuck with its feature phone operating system, with the new 3310 running Nokia Series 30+.

Most importantly, Nokia 3310 have a number of menu options with like Contacts, Call Logs, Messages, Calculator, calendar, a basic web browser, photos, voice recorder, radio, music player, and a camera application. An app store where you can download games and apps – although it wasn’t currently functional during our hands on time with the phone.

There are a surprising number of options in the menu of the Nokia 3310, giving it abilities above the basic text messaging and calls. One disappointing point is the fact the new Nokia 3310 is only 2.5G compatible, resulting in a very basic browsing experience.  No 3G or 4G data speeds.

It also lacks Wi-Fi, so you won’t be able to connect to a home or office network for a faster connection either. There is a music player and a 3.5 mm headphone jack which allows you to listen to any tracks you put on a micro SD card and slide inside the handset. The new Nokia 3310 comes with just 16 MB of internal storage.

Gaming

Snake is back on the new Nokia 3310. Called Snake Xenzia, the new version is made by Gameloft. The snake more snake-like, and it’s all in color for your visual pleasure.

Snake isn’t the only game you can play on the new 3310. Noteworthiness fact is that , you will also play Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, Diamond Twister 2, Doodle Jump and Drag Race. It will takes you back to the old school racing arcade games.

New Nokia 3310:  Battery and Camera

The original Nokia 3310 known for its long battery life, and there’s good news for those eyeing up the new 3310. A removable 1,200 mAh power pack is an instant upgrade over the 900 mAh of the original. It boasts 22 hours of talk time and up to 31 days of standby. Most importantly you can charge with a standard micro USB cable too.

Especially for those who remember the Nokia 3310 the new model will almost be a no-brainer of a purchase. Its low price and feature set, the battery life – provides an appealing option for anyone. It is for them who is looking for a back-up handset.
